DevBlog #8 Possible Weapons design and I'm on Discord!
Hi everyone,
This is follow up blog entry for this project that I started in previous project's page here: https://somethingofagamedev.itch.io/get-home/devlog/269418/devblog7-new-roguelik...
Another week has passed and since then, many things have changed. First, I'm on twitter: https://twitter.com/SomethingOfDev, second , I decided to join Discord and create server there, so anyone who wants can start a discussion about the upcoming game - comment design, give suggestions, etc. You can join the discord server here: https://discord.gg/XXyNF2Sm
So, that's one part of updates, me getting into bunch of social network sites to be closer to you and so that you could get game updates in a way that's more convenient to you.
Another part, that's probably more interesting is related to the game itself. I went through some features that would be great to have in game and here are some I think would improve it:
- Upgradable weapons - as suggested by Reddit users, I will add possibility to upgrade player's gear. I have thought up two possible ways of doing it:
- Full weapon change - type of weapon (melee, ranged, throwable) gets upgraded to better one. Example. - Small Swiss knife upgrades into hunting knife-> Hunting knife upgrades into machete.
- Weapon part upgrade. Example. -Let's say you have a gun. You can upgrade parts of it - add better grip, bigger magazine, etc. For melee - you start with knife that you can upgrade and make the blade longer, wider or heavier (which results in more hit points but also slows down the attack rate)
Which option would you prefer more? Put your answers in the comments or post a suggestion if you think there is another, better way.
- Balanced randomness or outcome based on player's skills - this is something I see in some games that have procedural generation. There are times when player just gets dealt a bad hand and game isn't winnable because of that. Example would be, if you have to spend ammo to proceed to the next level but random generation gives no ammo. You could be the best player but still lose because of this imbalance.
And now, some visual features that could become part of the game.
This is mock up for knife design. Feel free to comment on whether you would like to see them in the game. Or would you have suggestions to improve the design?
